Mocking the Mocks

What are mocks for?
We obsess over them, but say they’re only good for practice; we pay a fortune for them, but shake our fists in fury when the correcting isn’t up to scratch; we say they’re not important, but use them to decide the level at which students will take the State exams; we spend ages pouring over them to choose the paper with the right questions, but we ‘tip’ the hell out of them in advance.
It’s another tyranny in Irish education along with prefabs and underinvestment, budget cuts and the lack of forward planning from the DES.
So. Is it time to block the mocks? To flee from the pre? To revile the trial?
